According to Spanish media outlet Diario Gol, West Ham United are ready to pay the €60m (£53m) asking price to sign Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema this summer, and Irons fans have been quick to react to the rumour.
Diario Gol says that the 30-year-old could be set to leave the La Liga giants this summer, with the east London outfit one of the interested clubs willing to splash out on the Frenchman.
The report adds that Benzema isn’t keen on the move right now, and the Hammers would need to stay in the Premier League and sell their project to him in order to have any chance of completing an audacious deal.
West Ham supporters have taken to social media to give their thoughts on the story, with many looking suspiciously towards the club’s owners, who say they are going nowhere despite the pitch invasion and trouble against Burnley.
While one labelled it as “more bants from the boardroom”, another said “another Sullivan special now it’s getting close to season ticket renewal time”.
