da prosport bet: Liverpool will look to keep up the pace with Premier League leaders Chelsea when they face Everton in the Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park on Monday night. The Reds are currently way up in the standings but they are nine points behind the Blues despite producing some brilliant attacking performances this season, which have seen them score 40 goals in 16 games – a league high.
The latest of those was a 3-0 success away at Middlesbrough last week, with a brace from Adam Lallana and a strike from Divock Origi leading Jurgen Klopp’s men to a comfortable three points following two disappointing results against Bournemouth and West Ham previously.
With key players such as Philippe Coutinho and Joel Matip missing because of injury, Klopp won’t have a full squad to choose from for the short trip across Stanley Park.
Here is FootballFanCast’s Liverpool XI that will win and take the bragging rights against Everton…
GK: Simon Mignolet
When Liverpool signed Loris Karius from Mainz in the summer, it was with the objective of being the club’s No.1 goalkeeper this season.
However, he broke a bone in his hand that kept him out of action for the opening weeks of the season, with Mignolet filling in until mid-September.
When Karius was fully fit, he came in for the Belgian but after making some mistakes in recent matches, Mignolet was between the sticks for the 3-0 win at Middlesbrough in midweek, and after keeping a clean sheet he will be in the starting XI at Goodison Park.
RB: Nathaniel Clyne
The England international is Klopp’s first choice right-back and he is excelling in the system that the German deploys.
While he has proved that he is solid defensively – shown by helping the side keep a clean sheet against Middlesbrough during the week – the full-back also gives the team another attacking dimension on the overlap and is another part of the reason that they have scored so many goals after providing two assists this term.
CB: Dejan Lovren
The Croatian centre-back has suffered ups and downs during his Liverpool career to date, but he has established himself as a first choice at the heart of the defence under Klopp this term, forming a strong partnership with Joel Matip.
However, with the Cameroon international set to be absent again for this big Merseyside derby, Lovren should line up alongside the experienced Ragnar Klavan and they will look to build on the clean sheet they kept against Middlesbrough.
CB: Ragnar Klavan
Klopp brought the 31-year-old to Anfield in the summer but thanks to the budding partnership between Lovren and Matip, he has found first-team football hard to come by this term.
In the absence of the latter because of injury against Bournemouth, Lucas Leiva filled in while Klavan sat on the substitutes’ bench, but he did start and keep a clean sheet against Middlesbrough, and he may be asked to nullify the threat of Romelu LukakuÂat Goodison Park.
LB: James Milner
The former England international has once again shown how versatile he is by excelling in an unfamiliar left-back role, establishing himself as the club’s first choice on the left-hand side of the defence.
Jurgen Klopp knows that he can count on Milner defensively, while he also offers a threat going forward too – he has scored five Premier League goals this season as he is the chosen penalty taker when he is named in the starting XI.
CM: Emre Can
The German midfielder missed the matches against West Ham and Middlesbrough with a knee problem, but Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that the 22-year-old is fit to return to the starting XI for the Merseyside Derby.
Despite his relatively young age, Can is composed on the ball and brilliant at keeping possession, while he showed his threat at the other end of the pitch by scoring a stunning goal in the defeat against Bournemouth earlier this month.
CM: Jordan Henderson
The Liverpool captain has been brilliant this season and, as well as leading the club in the middle of the pitch, he has begun a number of attacks that have allowed the likes of Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino to flourish going forward.
Henderson was unlucky not to score in the draw against West Ham when Darren Randolph pulled off a stunning save to deny him, and he will be desperate to be the Reds’ hero at Goodison Park.
CM: Adam Lallana
The former Southampton man has probably enjoyed his best season in a Liverpool shirt so far this term, scoring six Premier League goals in 14 appearances as well as providing the same number of assists.
The latest of those goals came in the 3-0 win against Middlesbrough on Wednesday, when Lallana scored a brace and set up Divock Origi for the Reds’ other goal in a brilliant Man of the Match performance, and he will want to replicate that showing against the team he supported as a boy.
RW: Sadio Mane
The summer signing from Southampton has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season, and his addition to the club’s frontline has been a huge reason why they have been so free-scoring this term.
The Senegal international has netted seven goals in 15 Premier League appearances for the Reds, as well as picking up four assists, and he will want to punish the man who managed him at Southampton – Ronald Koeman – in the derby.
LW: Divock Origi
Competing with the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Phillipe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane for a spot in the starting XI in attack for the Reds, the Belgian may not have expected to get too many Premier League minutes this season.
However, with Sturridge and Coutinho suffering from injuries during the campaign, Origi has certainly taken his chance when he has got it, scoring four league goals including one in the 3-0 win away at Middlesbrough during the week.
ST: Roberto Firmino
The Brazilian is a key part of Liverpool’s attack and has linked up brilliantly with the likes of Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho this season.
However, one thing he will want to improve is his goalscoring – despite netting five times in 15 Premier League appearances this term, Firmino hasn’t scored since he found the net against Watford at the beginning of November, and he would love to end that drought at Goodison Park.
