As reported by The Mirror, Manchester United are set to sell midfielder Marouane Fellaini this January with Turkish side Besiktas stepping in to buy.
What’s the story?
Fellaini has had a United career full of ups and downs but with his contract running out at the end of the season, it looks like his relationship with the Red Devils is coming to an end.
The Mirror report that the club have agreed an £8m deal with Besiktas to see the Belgian international move to Turkey in one of Jose Mourinho’s first moves of the January transfer window.
The paper say that the Portuguese has been told he needs to sell before he can buy and this move will free up resources for him to bring in more players during the window.
A surprising axe
Fellaini’s reported exit could be seen as something of a surprise considering he’s been a regular in Jose Mourinho’s side this season, making nine appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions and playing in the majority of English Premier League matches he’s been fit for.
He’s been one of the more improved players this term, scoring four goals and generally performing well in the heart of the United midfield, leading to an expectation he might extend his current contract at the club.
Mourinho though is showing a ruthlessness, knowing that if United are going to become a team worthy of winning major honours home and abroad, he needs a high standard than the players he inherited.
After close to 250 appearances for United, it seems Fellaini’s time is up.
