da bet esporte: Mesut Ozil has revealed that he would prefer to stay at Arsenal than leave this summer, reports the Daily Mail.
What’s the word?
da betsson: The futures of Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have been under a cloud over the last few months.
Both players come to the end of their contracts in the summer of 2018, and neither have agreed on new deals.
The Daily Mail claims that Ozil is demanding £350,000 a week in wages, which is a staggering amount that only a handful of clubs can pay.
Despite failing to agree on fresh terms, the midfielder admitted during the launch of Arsenal’s new third kit in Australia that if he had a choice, he would prefer to stay.
The British publication quotes Ozil as saying:
“It is definitely my preference to stay. It is such a great club and I have always said that I feel very good at Arsenal. Once everyone is back in London we will sit down and discuss the future.
“For now the most important thing is our pre-season and getting through the tour, training and getting fitness. When I’m back in London, we will sit down and discuss.”
Is he being forced to stay?
In fairness to Ozil he has always maintained that he is happy and settled in London, but perhaps there are other reasons why he will not leave this summer.
None of the major clubs in the Premier League or the European leagues have been touted as possible contenders for his signature.
Ozil arrived at Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013, and while he is widely regarded as a world-class talent having played at the elite level for many years and winning the World Cup with Germany, his performances at times suggest otherwise.
He has been accused of going missing in big games on numerous occasions, and he does seem to lack consistency.
Perhaps that has been reflected in the transfer market, as none of the clubs that can afford his wages have been linked with a move for Ozil.
Manchester City, Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are among that bracket.
Ozil may be happy in London, but perhaps things will change if a huge club offers to meet his wage demands.
