Chelsea are hopeful of finalising a £28m deal for Real Madrid right-back Danilo this week, according to The Mirror.
What’s the word?
The Premier League champions have had quiet a slow summer with regards to transfers.
So far, they have recruited goalkeeper Willy Caballero from Manchester City on a free and defender Antonio Rudiger from Roma.
Chelsea missed out on re-signing Romelu Lukaku as he opted to join Manchester United, but it seems as though they will win the race for Danilo.
The Mirror claims that they have nudged ahead of Juventus and are confident of getting a deal over the line before the team fly out to the Far East for pre-season training next week.
Is Danilo the right signing for Chelsea?
The fact that the Brazilian is not first-choice right-back at the Bernabeu could perhaps raise a red flag.
He plays second fiddle to Dani Carvajal, but given that Madrid are littered with world-class talent, some are going to be forced to take a back seat.
Danilo, who started 17 La Liga games and three Champions League matches last season, has strength when on the ball and can pick out a pass.
It is widely thought that while Danilo is positive offensively and defensively, he is lacking slightly in contribution at either end.
At Chelsea, he will have an opportunity to tweak his role as he is likely to play as a wing-back.
Even though Victor Moses is not in the same calibre of player as Danilo, manager Antonio Conte did wonders with the Nigerian at Stamford Bridge last season.
Perhaps Danilo can also come into his own if he makes the move to West London.
