Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed that he could spend a further 14 weeks on the sidelines if his hamstring injury is not treated properly, reportsÂfootball.london.
What’s the latest?
The Belgium international has not played for Spurs since he suffered the injury blow 24 minutes into the team’s 3-1 win over Champions League opponents Real Madrid on November 1.
It was initially thought that the centre-back would return to action for the bust festive period.
However, Alderweireld fears that he may need surgery if the problem persists.
According toÂHLNÂjournalist Kristof Terreur, the defender will have another scan within the next two weeks.
Do Tottenham miss him?
Mauricio Pochettino has been unable to call on Alderweireld for the past six games in all competitions.
In that time, Spurs have only won twice, which has severely hampered their chances of Premier League title glory.
The club have fallen to sixth place and are 18 points behind leaders Manchester City, who remain unbeaten.
Since Alderweireld was sidelined, the team have kept just one clean sheet, conceding seven goals in total.
Tottenham need the Belgian back in the fold, but his latest comments indicate that the medical staff need to be extra cautious.
Rushing the defender back could cause more problems, so even though it is frustrating for Spurs not to have a key player fit to feature, they need to be patient.
