Last season, the majority of Everton fans were begging the club to sign a new left-back.
Cuco Martina had to deputise during Leighton Baines’s injury absence, but due to the latter’s age it became clear that a long-term replacement had to be found.
Following Marco Silva’s appointment as manager, Lucas Digne was bought from Barcelona to solve the issue.
Baines started the first three Premier League games of the season before taking a backseat.
The 33-year-old has been on the bench for the last four top-flight matches, but has failed to rack up a single minute.
Digne has now established himself as first choice, which is no major surprise given that he was recruited in the summer, but it raises the question about Baines’s future at Goodison Park.

The left-back joined Everton from Wigan Athletic in 2007 and has gone on to make 408 appearances, scoring 38 goals and racking up 66 assists.
On Reddit, some fans discussed whether the experienced player will move on from the club or stay until his retirement.
