da aviator aposta: According to reports in The Mirror, Aston Villa have joined Championship rivals Middlesbrough, Fulham and Derby County in the race to sign Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo on loan.
What’s the word, then?
da bwin: Well, The Mirror says that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is willing to let the 20-year-old out on a temporary basis to gain some regular playing time, and Villa boss Steve Bruce is said to have thrown his hat into the ring as he looks to strengthen his side in wide areas.
However, The Mirror adds that the Midlands outfit will face competition from three of their Championship rivals for the signature of the wide-man, who has spent time out on loan with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic in previous seasons.
How did Ojo do last term?
It was a disappointing season for the 20-year-old as he made just two appearances in all competitions for the Reds – both in the FA Cup.
The winger was ruled out at the start of the campaign with a back injury, and he then struggled to make the matchday squad with Klopp already having the likes of Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho, Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino to choose from in Premier League fixtures.
He will now be looking to play on a regular basis as he did for Wolves in the first-half of the 2015/16 season, when he scored three goals and provided a further four assists in 19 outings in total.
Would he be a good signing for Villa?
He certainly would be.
While Villa have added some experience to their squad in the form of John Terry, Christopher Samba, Ahmed Elmohamady and Glenn Whelan this summer, they aren’t filled with options in the wide areas – especially on the left-hand side.
While they have Albert Adomah and Elmohamady on the right, they are fewer options on the opposite flank with Jack Grealish and Jordan Amavi able to play there, but the latter could still leave the club despite a move to Sevilla breaking down earlier in the summer.
The left-footed Oyo could bring some pace, dribbling skills and ability to get crosses into the box that the likes of Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan would look to take advantage of.
What’s the verdict, then?
Well, the previous addition of Terry makes Villa an attractive club to join right now, and they will be hoping that Ojo chooses them over their Championship rivals.
