da brdice: It has been widely reported that new Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa and his Argentine counterpart at Tottenham Hotspur, Mauricio Pochettino, are the best of friends with the 62-year-old being described as his mentor, and he should take advantage of their relationship having already been linked with Spurs defender Juan Foyth.
da doce: The new Whites chief will be keen to strengthen his squad in the coming weeks in order to ensure the Yorkshire outfit are serious promotion contenders in the 2018/19 campaign following a miserable season last time out, in which they went from automatic promotion candidates to mid-table mediocrity.
Like Bielsa, Pochettino will also be keen to bolster his team before the Premier League window slams shut on August 9 so they can once again compete for the top flight title and in the Champions League, and bringing in senior players may limit the opportunities for some of the north London outfit’s youngsters.
If those individuals need more minutes on the pitch then they may well be loaned out, and Elland Road could be the perfect home for some of them seeing as they would get the support from the passionate fan-base, who have urged their club to sign a South American attacker who is shining at the 2018 World Cup.
Here are three Tottenham youngsters that would shine under Bielsa for United in 2018/19…
If Bielsa does introduce his famous 3-3-3-1/3-3-1-3 system at Elland Road, then it may well be that right-back Luke Ayling moves to being a right-sided centre-back – something he has done on occasion for the Yorkshire club.
That would mean there could be a new spot available for a right wing-back, and if the 62-year-old wants to bring a new player in to fill the role there will be few better options available than Walker-Peters, who is the third-choice in that position at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium behind Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier.
While opportunities have been limited, he impressed when he was given an opportunity for them last term – the 21-year-old scored one goal and provided a further two assists in nine outings in all competitions – and he could shine under Bielsa.
With Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper Bielsa’s only senior options at centre-back right now, he may well want to bring in a new central defender this summer.
If he wants a player that already has Championship experience then he should look no further than Spurs youngster Carter-Vickers, who impressed during a loan spell with Ipswich Town last season when he made 34 league appearances, scoring one goal and providing a further two assists.
The 20-year-old is impressive defensively and decent in the air, and he could really shine alongside the likes of Jansson, Cooper and Ayling during the 2018/19 campaign.
The young left-footed attacker was once described as having similar attributes to Lionel Messi by Mauricio Pochettino, so it was something of a surprise that he endured a miserable loan spell with Norwich City in the second-half of the 2017/18 campaign, which was terminated early in April.
The 19-year-old, who can play on either flank, only played six minutes in total with The Telegraph saying his time-keeping and mentality were two of the reasons he failed to succeed at Carrow Road.
With the talent he has he could certainly be a huge hit with Leeds working under a maverick in Bielsa though, and another loan spell could be exactly what he needs to grow in maturity and prove how good he is on a consistent basis.
