da 888: West Brom are in danger of seeing another one of their top youth prospects depart this summer.
A report from The Sun this week claimed that European giants Borussia Dortmund were planning to make a swoop for 18-year-old Jamie Soule.
The German club have apparently been showing interest since the young attacker’s display against Manchester City in the FA Youth Cup, a competition he flourished in.
The Baggies reached the semi-finals before eventually being knocked out by City. Soule, however, was one of their star men, scoring four goals in five outings.
In all competitions this term he’s found the back of the net 14 times across various youth levels.
Having seen the likes of Izzy Brown, Kemar Roofe and Tyler Robers leave the Hawthorns in recent years, Soule’s possible move away should come as a major concern to Albion fans.
It seems West Brom have a bad habit of allowing their rising talents to leave easily, so with that in mind, Football FanCast writers have given their verdicts on how big a blow it would be if Soule left.
Jack Saville:
“It would be a devastating blow if Soule was prised away from West Brom this summer. The club are well accustomed to losing their brightest young players but that doesn’t mean the fans become immune to frustration. The 18-year-old could blossom into a goal machine in the future if his record at youth level is anything to go by, so Shan will be gutted if a Bundesliga outfit lure yet another budding English talent to Germany.”
James Beavis:
“It would be a big blow and would indicate something is very wrong at West Brom. If Soule was to go it would suggest that young players don’t feel that they can achieve their ambitions at the club, and that is a huge worry. It basically deems their academy pointless if they can’t hold onto the players they have worked hard to develop. Something needs to change, and perhaps that means fast-tracking these youngsters to the first team before it’s too late.”
Billy Meyers:
“West Brom would be shooting themselves in the foot by letting yet another young talent slip through the net. They are still yet to tie down the impressive Rekeem Harper to a new contract, and their neglect of placing their faith in obviously prodigious youngsters may come back to haunt them further down the line. James Shan has a lot on his mind, but he must ensure that Jamie Soule doesn’t depart the Hawthorns.”
